What is an Academic Advisor and what does an Academic Advisor do?
Each new student is assigned an academic advisor based on his/her academic area of interest. If you have not yet chosen a specific major, you will be assigned an academic advisor who is specially trained in working with students who are still exploring majors.
If you are planning to go to a post-graduate professional school in some aspect of healthcare (medical school, dental school or optometry school), you will have an additional Pre-Health advisor available to you.
If you are a UAB Varsity Athlete playing on a UAB athletic team, you will have an additional advisor to assist you.
What do UAB Academic Advisors do?
- Advisors explain academic requirements, policies and procedures
- Advisors help students set goals and develop academic plans
- Advisors discuss any academic difficulties you might be having
- Advisors refer students to various campus resources to support their academic and personal development
How do I know who my Academic Advisor is?
Your Academic Advisor’s NAME and CONTACT INFORMATION is located in the upper right-hand corner of the front page of your BlazerNet account.
When should I meet with an Academic Advisor?
As often as needed, but AT LEAST once per semester
