Register for B-ALERT

UAB’s primary concern during any emergency or severe weather situation is the safety of our students, faculty, staff, and visitors. The UAB Police Department follows a prescribed emergency plan and conducts frequent mock drills to practice and maintain their readiness and skill level to respond to all types of incidents. Some of these drills are conducted with the Birmingham Police Department and the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, whose SWAT teams would assist if needed. And here’s something both cool and important: UAB’s police force of more than 70 sworn officer positions all have received National Incident Management Systems (NIMS) training, which is the federal standard for situations requiring incident command.

If this were an actual emergency, and not just you reading this Web site, the UAB Emergency Management Team would notify you through the B-ALERT system (e-mail and voice and text messaging to the accounts you designate); also, officers on the scene and building administrators would communicate with you. All students are required to register for B-ALERT, and students have the option to add family members’ phones numbers and e-mail addresses too.
