What’s the use of a healthy brain when your body is going to mush?
UAB’s three-story, 150,000-square-foot Campus Recreation Center has room for every athletic activity short of arena football and parkour. You’re looking at four basketball/volleyball courts, five racquetball courts, four aerobics studios, 18,000 square feet of weight and cardio area, a climbing wall, a Center Court gym for indoor soccer or floor hockey, an indoor track with panoramic views of campus, and an aquatic center with lap pool (for when you feel like a workout) and Lazy River (for when you don’t).
If you’re more the crunchy granola-outdoorsy type, Outdoor Pursuits is the Rec’s way of making your trips safe and fun. Rent camping gear, kayaks, canoes, or other outdoor equipment for a solo trip (with a buddy for safety, of course), or sign up for one of Outdoor Pursuits’ outings all over the country with other students, faculty, and staff—kayaking, skiing, rafting, hiking, and more.
Just don’t sit around being bored and mushy, is all.
You’re a machine. You’ve got the eye of the tiger. You’ve never been more ready in your life. And when that Frisbee comes your way, you are going to be all over it. And Ultimate Frisbee is just one way to take out a little post-midterm stress and hone your competitive edge.
UAB students enjoy intramural Ultimate Frisbee, basketball, bowling, flag football, billiards, Wiffle Ball, air hockey, and 16 other sports. (Seventeen if you count weightlifting, but is weightlifting really a sport? Your call.) Make friends, stay active, stay in shape. If you’re up for it, that is.
