UFit - Group Fitness

URec FitWell Team offers you everything you need to accomplish your fitness and wellness goals at The University of Alabama at Birmingham. With In-Person Group Exercise classes, we are ready to help you meet your recreational, fitness and wellness goals, from the heart of the UAB Campus. Check out our schedule and register for a class, we’re sure we have a class that fits you!

UFit Group Exercise classes are held in the Fitness Studios on the 3rd floor of the Campus Recreation Center. These FREE classes are open to all UAB URec members.     • April 13

    ***Starting March 1, 2023 when you reserve a bike for spin or a cycle class and do not show up for the class you'll be charged a $5 no show fee.
    The $5 fee will be added to your membership account, and you'll need to pay the fee to entering the Campus Recreation Center.
    To avoid the no show fee, please cancel your reservation at least 24 hours before class starts. Once you cancel, the next person on the waitlist receives notification that a bike is available.

    Using the online system:

    1. Sign in to our Online Portal. Please note that you will need to use your UAB URec credentials –NOT YOUR BLAZER ID. If you need to create credentials please contact Membership Team at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. or 205-934-8224
    2. Once you are logged in click “UFit & F45"
    3. Find the class you want to attend and click on it
    4. A pop-up menu with information about the class will appear
    5. Click “Enroll”
        Note: Participating in any of the F45 classes will require purchasing F45 passes. You can purchase the F45 passes in person at the Membership Desk, over the phone by calling 205-996-5038, in our mobile app, or directly on the Online Portal
    6. Choose the name of the member (you) who is reserving the spot for the Class
    7. Click “Register"
    8. A “Thank You" message will appear to confirm the booking

    Note: You can view your reservations by visiting the “Member Information" section on the home page and choosing “Account Summary".Scroll down to the “Current Reservations" section to view bookings.To cancel click specific reservations and then choose “Cancel Booking".

     

    Using the app:

    1. Download The UAB Campus Recreation App

    3. Choose “Classes" on the bottom of the screen
    4. Choose the day on the top of the screen and tap the class that you are interested in joining
    5. Tap “Book”
    6. Choose the name of the member (you) who is reserving the spot in the Class and tap “Next”
      • Note: Participating in any of the F45 classes will require purchasing F45 passes. You can purchase the F45 passes in person at the Membership Desk, over the phone by calling 205-996-5038, in our mobile app,or directly on the Online Portal
    7. A “Thank You" message will appear to confirm the booking.You will also be able to add this booking to your calendar.

    Note: You can view your reservation on the home page of the app by choosing the different days from the calendar list towards the top of the screen.To cancel, click the reservation in this calendar view and choose “cancel".

Class Descriptions

    • Yoga

      Get back to the basics with this simple, yet challenging classic yoga class.

    • Yoga & Pranayama

      Need a breather? Try out this class that utilizes traditional yoga poses in combination with Pranayama breathing techniques.

    • Yoga Basics for Beginners
      Join Jaynea for 45 minutes of Yoga basics. Yoga Basics include learning about yoga and its benefits from the beginning. With basic postures, alignment, and breathwork, this class will teach you the principles of yoga and how it can benefit you. This class is designed to provide more hands on interactions to assist with the development of your personal practice.
    • Power Yoga

      Total body workout designed to tone and sculpt every major muscle group; this intense, but easy to follow yoga program will push your strength and flexibility to new yoga heights!

    • Yoga Flow

      If you are just starting yoga or want to learn the basics, this is the class for you! You will get the total Mind & Body experience!

    • Fit Barre

      Fit Barre will offer you a full class of motivating music and toning technique. Fine tune your smallest muscles with small continuous contractions and feel your body’s true form take shape.

    • Mindfulness
      The mindfulness class serves as a great benefit to all URec members allowing for a space to rest, reset, and regroup before entering into the rest of their day. Mindfulness is a learned skill of being in the present moment. Each class will focus on strength, courage and confidence through the use of body movement and breathwork. After leaving each class, you will feel refreshed and centered, ready to approach any and every moment with clarity, peace, and presence.
    • Mindfulness & Meditation
      Mindfulness and meditation is geared to provide a mid day reset. This class will consist of stillness, intention setting and breathwork. This quick practice will leave you feeling refreshed and centered for your day moving forward. Breathing techniques, guided meditations, and gentle mindful movement are all incorporated into this practice.
    • Hatha Yoga
      A perfect blend of breathwork, movement through the use of yoga asanas, and stillness. This class is designed to use the breath as our guide in life: both on and off the mat. The flow of movements will allow for a full body connection: mind, body and soul. Join us. You will learn sequences you can practice on your own.
    • Cycle

      Uniquely tailored to suite a wide range of abilities and fitness goals.  Cycle offers participants an energizing, low-impact, but high intensity workout with no complicated moves to learn, and music that begs your legs to pedal.

    • Zumba

      Dance your way to a fitter you! This class combines Latin rhythms with cardiovascular exercise to create an aerobic routine that is fun and easy to follow. Come have fun while getting fit!

    • STRONG Nation

      STRONG by Zumba® is now STRONG Nation™ Start training to the beat. STRONG Nation™ combines body weight, muscle conditioning, cardio and plyometric training moves synced to original music that has been specifically designed to match every single move. Every squat, every lunge, every burpee is driven by the music, helping you make it to that last rep, and maybe even five more.

    • Hip Hop Fitness

      Dance it out to your favorite hip hop classics in this fast-paced, high energy dance class.

    • Buti Yoga

      This format combines elements of yoga with dance to create an experience unlike any other group fitness class. Come on out and perform yoga flows to the beat of up-tempo music for a fun way to break a sweat!

    • Cardio Kickboxing

      Looking to combine a strength and cardio workout in one? This morning interval class utilizes cardio and kickboxing segments to provide an action packed total body workout!

    • Circuit Training

      Circuit training combines both cardio and strength training. It is a combination of several different exercise targeting the total body with short rest periods between each set, performed in a circle style. It is effective at building strength and burning fat. Class is perfect for all fitness levels.

    • Core (30)

      Did you know that our core musculature is at the core of all physical activity? Strengthen yours today in this 30-minute, circuit-style class.

    • Total Body Strength

      Looking to increase muscular tone and decrease body fat? Total Body Strength is for you! Tailored to all ability levels, this class works to build upon foundational strength training components with proper form.

    • Total Body Conditioning

      Break a sweat with us in this fast-paced, music-oriented class! Total Body Conditioning aims to improve your aerobic capacity to the beat.

    • HIIT

      Push your fitness to the next level with HIIT! High-Intensity Interval Training utilizes intervals of high-intensity, anaerobic working periods with low-intensity resting periods to increase lean muscle mass and burn fat.

    • Water Aerobics

      A low impact but moderate intensity exercise class in water. The buoyancy of water provides a supportive environment for you to move and exercise in. You'll have less strain on your joints but still get the fitness benefits of exercise.
