Welcome back to the Campus Recreation Center!

We are so excited and proud to announce that the Campus Recreation Center will reopen on August 17, 2020, following the UAB University Recreation Re-entry Plan with modified: hours of operations, facility spaces, and updated policies and procedures.

UAB University Recreation’s priority is to open the facility in a way that puts the health and safety of our staff and members as the main focus in the Re-entry process. Please be sure to read and familiarize yourself with the UAB University Recreation’s Re-entry Plan, below, in its entirety. It provides important information and explains the changes and updates in our policies and procedures in response to COVID-19. All policies and procedures will be strictly enforced. The URec team is committed to providing you with quality and inclusive spaces and programs while minimizing the risk of exposure.

In order for our team to safely serve everyone, we ask YOU to follow the updated University Recreation Code of Conduct while in the facility. Only TOGETHER we can reduce the spread of COVID-19 and remain open. The UAB URec’s Re-entry Plan follows the UAB Guide to Re-entry, takes into account CDC recommendations, and complies with state and local guidelines and recommendations.

Due to the nature of the COVID-19 pandemic, rules and regulations are constantly changing. We recommend that you continue to monitor the UAB University Recreation Re-entry Plan daily for updates.

Per State of Alabama and UAB’s Re-entry guidelines, all members will be required to show their positive UAB Healthcheck (“Least Risk”) result or answer a series of questions regarding COVID-19 exposure before being allowed into the facility. Upon entry University Recreation is requiring each member to adhere to University Recreation’s new Re-entry Code of Conduct and policies and procedures as they relate to COVID– 19.

It is our priority to safely re-open the Campus Recreation Center, to continue the development of the member’s health and well-being, while practicing social distancing. . University Recreation requires all members in the facility to wear face masks and practice social distancing at all times.

We have also removed all furniture, tables and chairs to prevent members from congregating in the facility. We have propped open doors to decrease touch points in the building as well.

To enforce safe distancing, we have created capacity limitations for each activity space. We will monitor each activity space, and if the space is at capacity no one will be allowed to enter until someone leaves that area.

Bathrooms within the facility have different capacity limits depending on the number of available bathroom stalls. There are door stops in the doors to decrease touch points. Membership Services

Membership

Membership Re-start information

We wanted to thank everyone for their patience, as we’ve dealt with the aftermath of the COVID-19 outbreak and the Re-entry to Campus process. In our Member Newsletter, sent on April 6, 2020, we communicated how we plan to move forward with everyone’s membership in light of the current pandemic and limited business operations at UAB.

We closed our doors on March 15th and have been waiting to welcome all of our members back so you can pursue your personal wellbeing goals. As we worked through the different scenarios, we had to take into account the variety of ways individuals pay for their memberships. Below is detailed outline of the approach University Recreation plansto take regarding your memberships:

Members who paid in full:

For our members who have paid for 1, 3 or 12 month memberships in full, your membership expiration dates will be extended for the number of days that the Campus Recreation Center has been closed for.

Members who paid monthly via Credit Card Deductions:

For our members who pay for their membership via monthly credit card deductions, UAB University Recreation has not processed credit card billing for the months of April, May, June, July and August. Our members will receive the remaining portion of August to acknowledge the last half of March that our facility was closed for. Our credit card billing will then resume in September.

Members who paid monthly via Payroll Deductions

UAB University Recreation has not processed payroll deductions for the months of April, May, June, July, and August. Due to our current billing process and in order to be able to provide premiere customer service during the pandemic at hand, we will not be moving forward with processing payroll deductions.

You can place your credit card on file securely from the comfort of your home via our Online Member Portal or via the UAB Campus Recreation Mobile app.

Members who were payroll deducted, will have their membership extended to reflect the amount of days that the member has already been deducted for prior to the COVID-19 closure and University Recreation will set an expiration date to their membership.

Non-Prime Memberships

As we have worked through the different scenarios regarding our revised hours of the facility, all non-prime members (Early Bird & Night Owl) will have access to the facility Monday through Friday from 6am to 3pm, with unlimited access on the weekends.

Minor Members (ages 5-18)

To abide by UAB's policy that has been put into place, no Minors are able to access the Campus Recreation Center until further notice. Members who have a minor member associated with their member account, will not be charged for said Minor Membership until minor’s are able to access campus again.
