Mandy Parente

M.Ed., CHES; Interpersonal Violence Prevention Coordinator and Outreach Team Advisor

Mandy, a Certified Health Education Specialist, received a master’s degree in Community Health from the University of Louisville in 2015, and is a current PhD student in the Health Education/Health Promotion program at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Mandy is a certified trainer of the BACCHUS Certified Peer Education curriculum, and is the lead instructor for the CHHS 426/526 course. Mandy has been working with peer education programs for over 4 years, and is actively involved in the BACCHUS Initiatives of NASPA where she currently serves as a Faculty Advisor for the Advisor’s Academy, on the General Assembly Conference Planning Committee, and as a General Assembly Program Reviewer. Mandy is passionate about the power of peer education, and is excited to bring that passion to the UAB Campus.

Kristina Canfield

Kristina Canfield, M.Ed.

Substance Abuse Prevention & Recovery Coordinator

Kristina received a master’s degree in College Student Personnel from Ohio University in 2011. Kristina became involved in a peer education program during her final year as an undergraduate and became the advisor for the peer health educators at her alma mater during her time as a graduate student. She worked with the peer educators to design and implement programming across campus focusing on various health and wellness topics. After graduate school, Kristina worked in inpatient and outpatient drug and alcohol treatment, spending time focusing on assisting adults with early recovery from substance use disorders. Kristina is passionate about peer education and specializes in alcohol, tobacco, other drugs, and recovery topics.
