Education
Bachelor of Science in Chemistry, Cum Laude. Truman State University, May 1997. Minor in Biology.
Masters of Science in Biology. Truman State University, July 1999. Thesis on the feeding behavior and associated toxins in the phylum Chaetognatha.
Related Experience
Spring 1994-May 1997: Teaching Assistant for numerous chemistry and biology courses including Cellular and Molecular Biology, Quantitative Analytical Chemistry, Introductory Physiology, and General Chemistry. Duties included grading, laboratory preparation, supervision, and overall assessment of student performance.
Fall 1997-present: Instructor of General Biology Laboratories at Truman State University and at the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
Research History
1993-1997: Research assistant to Dr. David L. McCurdy. I was in charge of a project involving trace metal analysis in coal samples using Electrothermal Vaporization into a Direct Current Plasma.
Fall 1998-August 1999: My M.S. research involved the analysis of the feeding behavior of Parasagitta elegans (Chaetognatha). Topics of this work included the functional morphology, ecology, physiology, electron microscopy, and toxicology of this species of arrow worm.
Skills and Abilities
I have used and am familiar with the following instrumentation/techniques: HPLC, DCP, GC, IR, FTIR, AA, Uv-Vis, NMR, GFAA, Raman, SEM, Ultra-Microtomy, and light microscopy.
I am a PADI certified open water SCUBA diver with over 150 dives in California, Florida, Missouri, Alabama, Washington State, and Alaska.
