The second annual “Prism” concert will showcase the talent and skills of music students and faculty at the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
The concert is presented by the College of Arts and Sciences’ Department of Music. It is set for 7 p.m. Monday, March 25, at UAB’s Alys Stephens Performing Arts Center, 1200 10th Ave. South. Tickets are $25, $15 for UAB employees and free to all students. Call 205-975-2787 for tickets.
Featuring faculty and student ensemble performances from the entire range of the Department of Music offerings, this year’s concert will include Distinguished Professor of Piano Yakov Kasman and his daughter freshman Dina Kasman, the UAB Concert Choir, Gospel Choir, Symphony Band, and Wind Symphony, as well as the Faculty Brass Quintet, Faculty Chamber Trio and all four members of the voice faculty.
The student Jazz Ensemble and Commercial Music Ensemble will perform, as well as UAB Music alumnus and adjunct Professor Matthew Bryant, director of the Computer Music Ensemble. The Wind Symphony, combined choirs and voice faculty will close out the evening with Aaron Copland’s inspirational piece “The Promise of Living,” from his opera “The Tender Land.”
