A National Endowment for the Arts Jazz Master and Grammy Award-winning producer, Marsalis is an acclaimed trombonist and composer who has also dedicated his prolific career to music theater and education. Along with the Marsalis family of musicians, including his father, Ellis, the artist was destined to a life in music.
Marsalis has gained a reputation for presenting first-class shows that seamlessly combine a high level of musicianship and entertainment. In 2008, he formed the Uptown Jazz Orchestra, an ensemble that focuses on maintaining important jazz traditions such as riff playing, New Orleans polyphony and spontaneous arrangements. The Uptown Jazz Orchestra’s repertoire ranges from New Orleans-street band songs, swing, bebop and the blues to modern and contemporary jazz. Together they deliver the true essence of jazz with edge, sophistication and good old-fashioned fun.
