Doctor/patient communication — or lack thereof — is focus of 40th Reynolds-Finley lecture

EvansJoomlaHughes Evans, M.D., Ph.D.The University of Alabama at Birmingham will host the 40th annual Reynolds-Finley Historical Lecture at 4 p.m. Friday, Feb. 22. This year’s speaker is Hughes Evans, M.D., Ph.D.

Evans will present a lecture titled “What Doctors Say and What Patients and Families Hear: Lessons from the History of Medicine and Pediatrics.”

Evans is professor of general pediatrics and adolescent medicine at Emory University’s School of Medicine and former UAB faculty. During her 25 years at UAB, Evans practiced in pediatrics and was deeply involved in medical education and humanities. She is also an active member of several national societies, including the American Association for the History of Medicine.

The event is free and open to the public. The lecture will be held in Lecture Room E of Volker Hall, located at 1670 University Blvd. Parking is reserved in UAB Lot 5A. The entrance is located on 16th Street between University Boulevard and Seventh Avenue South. Continuing Medical Education credit will also be offered for physicians.  

The Reynolds-Finley Historical Lecture Series’ objective is to review, assess and discuss various historical aspects of the health care sciences. The annual Reynolds-Finley lecture is the foremost presentation in the series that brings speakers of prominence to UAB.
