Colon on the Corner … with Coffee is part of UAB’s effort to increase the rate of colorectal screenings for adults ages 50 and older as part of the American Cancer Society's "80 by 18" pledge, which UAB Health System CEO William Ferniany, Ph.D., signed in 2016. UAB since has increased its rate to 67 percent.
As the largest employer in Alabama, UAB's pledge has the potential to raise awareness and increase screening rates and combat one of the most preventable cancers — and the nation’s second-leading cause of cancer-related deaths in men and women combined.
