Regional Scholarships


To be eligible for regional scholarships at UAB, students must be admitted by December 1. New freshmen are typically considered for all university-wide academic scholarships upon admission to UAB. However, a few scholarships require supplemental applications. If a supplemental application is required, it will be noted in the award’s description below.

Birmingham Advanced Placement (AP) Scholarships

These awards are reserved for seniors in the Birmingham City School System who are enrolled in Advanced Placement (AP) courses. And rightly so! All that extra effort deserves some extra recognition and reward. To be considered for one of these two awards, apply by March 1st with this application:
Birmingham AP Scholarship Application
  • AP Achievement Award
    • Full tuition and fees (up to 15 credit hours per semester for fall and spring terms only) for a total of 4 years (eight academic semesters)
    • The award amount will be calculated in the following manner: cost of tuition and fees - (Pell Grant + Supplemental Education Opportunity Grant + your UAB academic scholarship)
    • Students must have enrolled in two or more AP courses, earn grades of B or higher in all AP coursework, and earn a score of 3 or higher on two or more AP exams
    • Students must be admitted to UAB and complete the FAFSA by March 1 of their senior year
    • Up to 20 students receive award

  • AP Recognition Award
    • One-time award of $1,000
    • Students must have enrolled in two or more AP courses and earn grades of B or higher in all AP coursework
    • Students must be admitted to UAB and complete the FAFSA by March 1 of their senior year
    • Up to 50 students receive award

Jane Knight Lowe
  • These renewable awards are reserved for entering freshmen who are graduates of one of the public or private secondary schools in Madison County, Alabama. These merit-based awards pay $6,000.

Birmingham News-Clarence B. Hanson Jr. Scholarship
  • This renewable award is reserved for entering freshmen who are residents of the Birmingham Metropolitan Area. The award is based on financial need and demonstrated leadership qualities.

Crawford T. and Virginia Johnson Scholarship
  • This renewable award is reserved for currently enrolled UAB students from the Birmingham Metropolitan Area.

Virginia and Anna Praytor Scholarship
  • This scholarship is awarded on an annual basis to entering freshmen and currently enrolled undergraduate students. Students must be graduates of a Birmingham city high school.
