To be considered for additional academic scholarships, both new and currently enrolled undergraduate students must submit a scholarship application in BSMART, UAB’s Blazer Scholarship Management And Resource Tool.  (To submit a scholarship application, you must first be admitted to UAB.)  Admitted students may begin applying for 2018-2019 scholarships on October 1, 2017.

The Alliance for LGBT Equality at UAB Scholarship

The Alliance for LGBT Equality at UAB Scholarship is an award for which all applicants are evaluated on the totality of their situation: academic achievement, financial need, demonstrated service to the LGBTQ community, demonstrated leadership skills, and present and future goals. Applicants must be currently enrolled in, or admitted to, a degree‐granting program at UAB. Applicants must have earned at least a 3.0 grade point average in any coursework completed prior to the time of application and may be either an undergraduate or graduate student.

Mary Elizabeth Adams Endowed Scholarship

An annual award for Alabama residents who self-identify as having type I diabetes. Preference will be given to students who plan to pursue a degree in the sciences or who have declared a pre-medicine track, with particular preference given to those type 1 diabetics who are accepted into the UAB Early Medical School Acceptance Program. Applicants should demonstrate solid academic promise, financial need, and personal responsibility through work, community, or family activities.

Howlin’ Mad Smith Detachment of the Marine Corps League Sponsored Scholarship

The Howlin’ Mad Smith Detachment of the Marine Corps League Sponsored Scholarship application is available for UAB students who are current or former members of the U.S. Marine Corps. Applicants must demonstrate solid academic promise, maintain full-time enrollment status, and have a cumulative UAB grade point average of 2.5 or higher. This scholarship is a one year award, which will be equally divided between the fall and spring semesters.

Vettes-4-Vets Endowed Scholarship

Vettes-4-Vets is a group of Chevrolet Corvette owners and enthusiasts from Alabama that formed an organization dedicated to helping veterans in their time of need. The organization created an endowed award for UAB students who are current or former members of a branch of the United States Military. Applicants must demonstrate solid academic promise, maintain full-time enrollment status, and have a cumulative UAB grade point average of 2.5 or higher. This scholarship is a one year award, which will be equally divided between the fall and spring semesters.

IB Scholarship

High school seniors who are candidates for the International Baccalaureate Diploma can apply for a 4-year IB Scholarship. To do so,  log in to BSMART and submit the General Application. Then, answer the supplemental questions for the IB Diploma Candidate Award by March 1st. Selected students will initially be awarded the Diploma Candidate amount ($1,000 per year). If they earn the IB Diploma, their awards will automatically be upgraded to the IB Diploma Holder Scholarship ($2,500 per year) after their final IB scores are received.

Birmingham Racing Commission Scholarship

This renewable award is reserved for entering freshmen and is based on academic achievement. Recipients must be residents of the Birmingham Metropolitan Statistical Area (Blount, Jefferson, Shelby, St. Clair or Walker counties).

Jack Edwards/Alabama Power Foundation Scholarship

This renewable award is reserved for a current UAB student who is a resident of Alabama. Selection is based on academic achievement.

HOPE (Helping Other People Excel) Scholarship

This renewable scholarship, based on financial need, is reserved for currently-enrolled UAB students.

Dottie Monro Presidential Minority Scholarship

This renewable scholarship, valued at $2,500 per year, is for African-American students who are entering freshmen.

W. Sanders Murrell Alumni Legacy Scholarship

This renewable award, valued at $1,000 per year, is reserved for entering freshmen who are children of UAB alumni. Applications are available here.

George G. Seibels Jr. Scholarship

This annual award is reserved for entering freshmen. The award is based on leadership potential and interest in civic affairs and public service.

Nellie Whitworth Flaherty and Lula McCord Whitworth Scholarship

This award is reserved for a deserving female student. Preference will be given to those students who have been or are in the work force and are returning to school to complete their education on either a part-time or full-time basis.
