Ginger Hattaway, director of Administrative and Fiscal Affairs in the UAB School of Dentistry, was honored with the second annual President’s Award for Excellence in Support of UAB And Shared Governance, given to an employee or student who embodies UAB’s core values of unity of purpose through shared governance, which ensures excellence in all parts of UAB’s mission.
Hattaway has worked at UAB for more than 30 years. As a member of the 2014-15 Blaze Leadership Academy, Hattaway was instrumental in the development of the UAB Staff Council, which advocates for a stronger voice for staff on key institutional issues such as benefits, policies and professional development.
“The effort and patience to build something from scratch does not happen without an absolute commitment to shared governance,” one nominator letter reads.
“A Blazer through and through, she is driven to enhance the culture and to leave UAB a better place.”
Hattaway was voted the inaugural president/chair of the Staff Council for the 2016-17 academic year and now serves as their past-chair. She also is a member of the UAB Strategic Planning Council.
“If you were to prick her finger, I truly believe that Ginger Hattaway would bleed green and gold,” a nominator wrote. “A Blazer through and through, she is driven to enhance the culture and to leave UAB a better place.”
