To be considered for additional academic scholarships, both new and currently enrolled undergraduate students must submit a scholarship application in BSMART, UAB’s Blazer Scholarship Management And Resource Tool.  (To submit a scholarship application, you must first be admitted to UAB.)  Admitted students may begin applying for 2019-2020 scholarships on October 1, 2018.

The Alliance for LGBT Equality at UAB Scholarship

The Alliance for LGBT Equality at UAB Scholarship is an award for which all applicants are evaluated on the totality of their situation: academic achievement, financial need, demonstrated service to the LGBTQ community, demonstrated leadership skills, and present and future goals. Applicants must be currently enrolled in, or admitted to, a degree‐granting program at UAB. Applicants must have earned at least a 3.0 grade point average in any coursework completed prior to the time of application and may be either an undergraduate or graduate student.

Mary Elizabeth Adams Endowed Scholarship

A one-year award for Alabama residents who self-identify as having type I diabetes. Consideration is based on the academic achievements, financial need, and extracurricular activities of current UAB students. Applicants must have earned at least an overall 3.5 grade point average and a 25 or higher on the ACT (or an equivalent score on the SAT). Preference will be given to students who plan to pursue a degree in the sciences, or who have declared a pre-medicine track.

Howlin’ Mad Smith Detachment of the Marine Corps League Sponsored Scholarship

The Howlin’ Mad Smith Detachment of the Marine Corps League Sponsored Scholarship application is available for UAB students who are current or former members of the U.S. Marine Corps. Applicants must demonstrate solid academic promise, maintain full-time enrollment status, and have a cumulative UAB grade point average of 2.5 or higher. This scholarship is a one year award, which will be equally divided between the fall and spring semesters.

Vettes-4-Vets Endowed Scholarship

Vettes-4-Vets is a group of Chevrolet Corvette owners and enthusiasts from Alabama that formed an organization dedicated to helping veterans in their time of need. The organization created an endowed award for UAB students who are current or former members of a branch of the United States Military. Applicants must demonstrate solid academic promise, maintain full-time enrollment status, and have a cumulative UAB grade point average of 2.5 or higher. This scholarship is a one year award, which will be equally divided between the fall and spring semesters.

IB Scholarship

High school seniors who are candidates for the International Baccalaureate Diploma can apply for a 4-year IB Scholarship. To do so,  log in to BSMART and submit the General Application. Then, answer the supplemental questions for the IB Diploma Candidate Award by March 1st. Selected students will initially be awarded the Diploma Candidate amount ($1,000 per year). If they earn the IB Diploma, their awards will automatically be upgraded to the IB Diploma Holder Scholarship ($2,500 per year) after their final IB scores are received.

Birmingham Racing Commission Scholarship

Consideration for this one-year scholarship is based on the academic achievements of current full-time UAB students who are residents of Jefferson County, Alabama. Students must be enrolled in a regular undergraduate program at UAB.

Jack Edwards/Alabama Power Foundation Scholarship

Consideration for this one-year scholarship is based on the academic achievements of current full-time UAB students who are residents of Alabama. Students must be enrolled in a regular undergraduate program at UAB.

HOPE (Helping Other People Excel) Scholarship

Consideration for this one-year scholarship is based on the financial need, academic achievement, and extracurricular activities of current full-time UAB students who are residents of Alabama. Students must demonstrate a successful history of employment, active participation in community activities and be enrolled in a regular undergraduate program at UAB.

Dottie Monro Presidential Minority Scholarship

This renewable award is for incoming freshmen who are minority students. Consideration is based on financial need and academic achievement. Students must be admitted to UAB by March 1 of their senior year in high school, have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher, and submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by March 1.

W. Sanders Murell Legacy Scholarship

This renewable award is reserved for entering freshmen who are children of UAB alumni. For instructions to apply, and to view other scholarship opportunities offered by the UAB National Alumni Society, please visit uab.edu/alumni.

George G. Seibels Jr. Scholarship

This one-year award is available to undergraduate students who are admitted to or currently enrolled in UAB. Preference will be given to freshmen, but other classes will be considered. Award amounts vary each year, but they typically range from $500-$2,000. Consideration is based on leadership potential, solid academic promise, high moral character, and an expressed interest in civic affairs, public service, or patriotic affairs.

Nellie Whitworth Flaherty and Lula McCord Whitworth Scholarship

This award is reserved for a deserving female student. Preference will be given to those students who have been or are in the work force and are returning to school to complete their education on either a part-time or full-time basis.
