Benton receives award for dedication to improving the quality of health care for children

Elizabeth (Cason) Benton, M.D., has received the 2018 Paul V. Miles Fellowship Award from the American Board of Pediatrics, an honor that highlights a pediatrician who is dedicated to improving the quality of health care for children.
The AMC21 School of Medicine Research Retreat met on Jan. 19, 2018, with focus on “Strategic Recruitment in the SOM.” As part of the AMC21-five-year goal to reach the top 20 in NIH funding, UAB will need to recruit a net of 80 to 84 funded faculty and retain and develop current faculty.

Grant expands patient navigation to caregivers of children with cancer, sickle cell

Using nonclinical navigators, the Family Navigation Program will provide support and services to children diagnosed with cancer and sickle cell disease, as well as to their families. The interdisciplinary team led by the UAB Department of Pediatrics was awarded a grant to create the Family Care Connect Program.
Niederweis elected as Fellow to American Academy of Microbiology

Michael Niederweis, Ph.D., professor in the UAB Department of Microbiology, has been elected as a Fellow to the American Academy of Microbiology (AAM). This honor recognizes his excellence, originality and leadership in the microbiological sciences.
David A. Rogers, M.D., MHPE, became UAB Medicine’s inaugural chief wellness officer on Jan. 1. This newly created position showcases how UAB Medicine is prioritizing faculty and staff wellness.
