On January 19, 2018, the School of Medicine assembled nearly 100 faculty representing departments, centers, institutes and other leaders for its annual research retreat. The topic of the 2018 retreat was strategic recruitment.
The HIV Medicine Association (HVMA) has awarded UAB Health Equity Scholar, Kelsie Dodson, with one of their scholarship grants.
On March 26-30, 46 undergraduate students competed in the Dare to Diagnose competition. Dare to Diagnose was created by undergraduates in the Science and Technology Honors Program in partnership with faculty from the UAB School of Medicine.

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has announced a new partnership with the American Society of Nephrology to launch the Kidney Innovation Accelerator (KidneyX).
Irfan M. Asif, M.D., has been named chair of the Department of Family and Community Medicine at the UAB School of Medicine. Asif is a primary care physician with a specialization in sports and exercise medicine.
