Subsidized and Unsubsidized Federal Direct Loans
Federal Direct loans are available to eligible undergraduate and graduate borrowers.
Federal Direct Parent Loan for Undergraduate Students (PLUS)
Parents who need additional resources to pay for the costs of attending UAB may apply for Federal Direct Parent Loan for Undergraduate Students (PLUS) loan funds.
Graduate/Professional PLUS Loans
Students who need additional resources to pay for the costs of attending UAB may apply for Federal Grad PLUS loan funds. PLUS loans are credit-based loans available to graduate/professional students to help make up the difference between the cost of attendance, annual budget, and other aid—such as grants, scholarships, third party payments and Federal Direct Unsubsidized Loans.
Electronic PLUS Checklist
This checklist is to be completed before initiating a Direct PLUS application.
Alternative Education Loans
Alternative education loans are private, credit-based, non-federal loans. These student loans are made by national, regional, and local lending institutions to assist families in paying educational costs. The loan products offered may vary by lender, and a separate loan application must be submitted for each academic year. Borrowers are encouraged to compare all private loan options as well as compare them to federal loans. UAB does not recommend or suggest any lender over another, but we offer a historical lender list to help students with the search process.
