After many months of preparation and an extensive review process, the O’Neal Comprehensive Cancer Center at UAB will submit their P30 Cancer Center Support Grant (CCSG) renewal to the National Cancer Institute (NCI) to fund another five-years of success later this month.

Observed in April each year, National Donate Life Month aims to encourage individuals to register as organ and tissue donors, and to honor those who have saved lives through the gift of donation.

Throughout the month of March, we are given the opportunity to celebrate the selfless contributions of women across the world. 

The anticipation of Match Day is one of my favorite times of the year: sharing the excitement of our students as they learn where they are going to continue their medical careers, anticipating the caliber of talented new physicians who will join us at UAB in our residency programs across our state, and feeling pride in the significant role the School of Medicine represents in the education and training of our nation’s doctors.

Birmingham is no stranger to the fight for racial justice. In the middle of the 20th century, Birmingham became the center of the Civil Rights Movement. During Black History Month, we honor achievements by Black Americans and recognize their central role in the struggle toward equality.

A critical piece of the School of Medicine’s mission is our commitment to educating the next generation of physicians and physician-scientists.

As the end of 2020 quickly approaches, I'd like to take a moment to share with you some of the things that I’m particularly thankful for within the School of Medicine.

It is important we highlight the different areas of our school that played key roles during the challenging months of our initial COVID-19 response. A pivotal initiative in that response was the development and implementation of GuideSafe™, the COVID-19 reentry platform developed by a team of experts here at UAB
