In a new series, the communications team sat down virtually with each top leader across the health system to discuss their role in the new CEO/Dean model, to learn more about their background, and understand their vision for UAB. On Jan. 1, Dawn Bulgarella assumed a new position: president and CFO of the UAB Health System.

MS4 and MBA candidate Nikhi Singh and his peers have created a unique program for medical students interested in research.

On Jan. 1, 2022, Selwyn M. Vickers, M.D., FACS, assumed the role of CEO of the UAB Health System and CEO of the UAB/Ascension St. Vincent’s Alliance, while also continuing to serve as Dean of the UAB Marnix E. Heersink School of Medicine.

In September, our medical school was named due to a generous and historical gift of $95 million from the Heersink family. In Part 3 of the 3-part series, “Becoming Heersink,” we discuss what we can expect in the future, such as the creation of two new institutes, recruitment and retention packages, indirect values, and more, as well as how the gift will expand the scope and footprint of the school.

Kyle Hicks, Information Services Specialist II in the Heersink School of Medicine, utilizes his skill set in IT work to volunteer on a disaster response team, helping those in need across the southeastern U.S.
