The Department of Medical Education and the Argus Society are pleased to announce the 2021 Argus Awards nominations. Winners will be announced at the Argus Awards Ceremony at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, November 5, 2021.
Mukesh Patel, MD, associate professor of Medicine in the Division of Infectious Diseases and section chief of Infectious Diseases at the Birmingham VA Medical Center, is the course co-director for two undergraduate medical courses: Fundamentals Block 5 (Microbiology) and Pulmonary Medicine and the director of the longitudinal microbiology curriculum. As he prepares to begin microbiology modules for the first-year students, Patel answers questions on how he engages students and ways he makes fundamental concepts relevant and interesting.

Jayme Locke, M.D., MPH, director of the UAB Comprehensive Transplant Institute, is the latest guest on ‘The Checkup’ podcast, hosted by Selwyn Vickers, M.D., FACS, dean of the School of Medicine. Together, they discuss the impact of CTI on kidney transplant regionally, how UAB’s transplant program is unique, transplant during COVID-19, and much more.

Launched in 2019, the HEA is an interprofessional faculty development program that aims to create and support a community of leaders in education and a culture of excellence in teaching.
