PBRN-Related Organizations

Federation of Practice Based Research Networks (FPBRN)

Established in 1997, the Federation promotes the growth and development of clinical investigation in practice settings in primary care medicine by advocating and building capacity for practice-based research and fostering collaboration and communication among networks. The Federation provides a common voice for networks at the national level - within our professional societies and governmental agencies - to increase support for practice-based research.

North American Primary Care Research Group (NAPCRG)

Founded in 1972, NAPCRG is a multidisciplinary organization for primary care researchers in the US, Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean, and throughout the world with a mission to disseminate, develop and promote new knowledge regarding primary care.

AAFP National Research Network (AAFP NRN)

The AAFP National Research Network is a nationwide practice-based research network with primary care clinician members representing 45 US States, the District of Columbia, US Military Hospitals in Germany and in the United Kingdom, and 4 Canadian provinces. It is a voluntary research association of primary care physicians who collaborate on studies to describe and improve upon the phenomenon of primary care practice.
Inventory and Evaluation of Clinical Research Networks (IECRN)

The IECRN, funded by the NIH Roadmap for Medical Research, provides profiles of clinical research networks - summaries of descriptive information  such as types of studies, funding source, participating entities and special populations - in order to promote collaboration among networks and facilitate identification of networks for research studies.

Articles of Interest

There are hundreds, if not thousands, of articles on Primary Care Practice-Based Research available, and thousands more on clinical topics of interest to primary care physicians. Below are just a few examples of "overviews" that may be of particular interest to physicians who are considering participating in a PBRN. Literature searches on specific clinical topics are available free of charge to APBRN members on request. Please contact the Coordinating Center for details..
