Students spoke, and we listened! The Collat School of Business has improved access to study spaces throughout our building, and students are already taking advantage of the converted and enhanced spaces. Whether you prefer to study in secluded silence or in a group, we’ve got you covered.

Here are some of the building changes we’ve made:

First Floor

Quiet Study Room Enhancements (CSB 163)

Need a quiet place to study? Tucked away just off the MPT Commons, next to the Collat Tutoring Lab is a room reserved for quiet study. The room was requested by students during the building’s construction, and now it features power outlets in each study station for students to charge up their laptops and other electronic devices. Study on!

New J. Frank Barefield, Jr. Entrepreneurship Program Suite (CSB 108 A-D)

Breakout Room Rules
  • No food allowed, water only.

  • Reservations have priority. Reserve space here opens a new website or on tablets next to rooms. Only currently enrolled business students can reserve rooms.

  • Parties of 2 or more. Breakout rooms are intended for group study and project work. Individuals needing quiet use the Quiet Study Room on the first floor.
The UAB Barefield Entrepreneurship Program has moved into its own suite on the first floor, conveniently located next to the Nielsen Innovation Lab (just beyond the Commons and Blenz). The suite includes two faculty offices, one staff office, and a breakout room for students.

Second Floor

New Breakout Rooms (CSB 208, 210, 212)

These three rooms are tucked in the northwest corner of the building, across from the MBA suite and conference room. One-time offices, they were smartly converted during the summer into breakout rooms, available to all Collat students. Currently enrolled business students can reserve them here opens a new website or on the tablet by the door. Need help finding them? Coming off the Grand Stairs, turn right, then right again after the elevators. Turn left at the IT Suite and they’re on your left.

Third Floor

Expanded Access to Breakout Rooms (CSB 306, 308)

The two breakout rooms located closest to the Chad T. Hagwood Finance Lab were previously only available to finance students but are now unlocked and available to all students.
