Current Undergraduate Accounting Students

If you are a current UAB undergraduate accounting student, you may be able to transition into the UAB Mac program through our Accelerated Bachelor to Master of Accounting (ABM) program.

Ready to open doors to a brighter future with a graduate business degree from UAB? Our Master of Accounting program accepts applications three times a year with the following requirements:

  • A bachelor's degree in accounting from an AACSB-accredited university, received less than five years before the desired enrollment term at UAB) OR
  • A bachelor's degree in any discipline from a U.S. regionally accredited university with a minimum GPA of 3.0 and minimum of B in all accounting courses.  These applicants must complete the Accounting Bridge Certificate requirements in order to have the accounting foundation needed for the program.

Notes: International applicants are required to apply at least six months in advance of the deadline in order to ensure time for transcript evaluation and processing of all Visa paperwork.  The MAc program accepts international applications for fall and spring terms only. 

Test Scores

Program admission requires a minimum score of 500 on the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) administered by the Graduate Management Admission Council opens a new website within the five-year period immediately preceding the desired term of enrollment. The GMAT is waived for UAB accounting graduates and other students who take all the foundation accounting courses at the undergraduate level at UAB and have a minimum GPA of 3.4.

The MAc program team may be contacted for possible GMAT waiver for applicants meeting one of the following:

  • Applicant with an undergraduate accounting degree from an AACSB-accredited institution opens a new website, who achieved a cumulative GPA of 3.4 or higher.
  • Applicant who has completed the UAB Accounting Bridge Certificate program.
  • Applicant with an advanced degree in business related field (e.g. MBA) from an AACSB-accredited institution.
  • Applicant has a terminal degree in another discipline.
  • Applicant has a professional accounting certification (CPA or equivalent) that requires continuing professional education.
  • Applicant has significant (three-five years) experience at the executive level.

International Applicants Only: Additional Requirements

  • TOEFL minimum composite score of 80 with a minimum score of 20 for each section or ILETS minimum composite score of 6.5 with minimum of 6.0 in each section is required for those whose native language is not English.
  • A general credentialing evaluation from ECE or WES stating US degree equivalency of four-year US Bachelor degree and GPA is required. 
  • Students must have knowledge of US GAAP. Students with accounting degrees from outside of the US should plan to enter the Accounting Bridge Certificate before applying to the MAc Program.
  • Note: International applicants should apply at least six months in advance of deadlines to ensure processing of all Visa paperwork. 

Transcript Evaluations

Applicants with coursework earned from institutions outside the United States must provide a course-by-course foreign college transcript evaluation of all attended non-U.S. institutions.* We will accept a transcript evaluation from any NACES accredited evaluation company. To determine academic eligibility for admissions, academic credentials must be:

  • Translated to English;
  • Evaluated course-by-course;
  • Include the overall academic GPA; and
  • From an approved third party company. We will accept a transcript evaluation from any NACES accredited evaluation company.

SpanTran created a custom application for UAB that will make sure you select the right kind of evaluation at a discounted rate. You can access their application through the SpanTran application – The University of Alabama at Birmingham portal opens a new website.

International Student and Scholar Services will have access to your decision and a representative will contact you directly if any other documentation is necessary to begin processing your immigration documents.

*UAB will complete the evaluation for institutions outside of the United States if they are on a 4.0 grading scale. UAB reserves the right to request a NACES-accredited evaluation if a determination is made that the evaluation cannot be completed internally.
