GLACIER is a  powered double middeck  locker-equivalent size freezer used to transport science samples to and from the International Space Station (ISS), and maintain the samples on ISS. The ISS Payloads Office requested that GLACIER be launched on every SpaceX Dragon flight through SpX-5.

Currently, there are 6 GLACIERS available for flight. Two additional GLACIERS are currently being manufactured and will be available for flight in December 2012.

Under the new contract, CBSE will be refurbishing GLACIER's limited life items to ensure operability through the extended ISS lifetime of 2020. Other tasks will include configuring GLACIER for flight, conducting pre-flight performance tests, and performing pre and post flight processing of the GLACIER flight hardware.
