Dr. Alvarez is an Associate Professor in the Division of Gynecological Oncology (Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology). He has extensive clinical and translational research experience in the areas of ovarian and cervical cancer and serves as the principle investigator at UAB for the Gynecological Oncology Group. He has several funded ovarian cancer gene therapy clinical trials for which he serves as Principle Investigator or Co-investigator. He is actively involved in the design, implementation, and analysis of proposed pre-clinical studies.

Dr. Alvarez is primarily responsible for overseeing clinical grade vector production, toxicity testing, acquisition of regulatory body approval, and implementation of proposed clinical trials.
