Welcome to the CCSB
The Center for Computational and Structural Biology (CCSB), Dr. Jere P. Segrest, Director, a strategic investment by UAB in its vision to become a leader in biomedical research and training, focuses on bridging the gap between knowledge of the human genome and knowledge of the function of new and predicted genome products.
To accomplish this, a quantitative understanding of the three-dimensional structure of proteins and, in particular, their interactions with other macromolecules, such as the membrane, will be the pivotal challenge in biomedical research in the next few decades.
The CCSB integrates skills and resources from a range of research areas including:
- High Performance Computing and Visualization
- Macromolecular Modeling and Dynamics
- Image Processing
- Cryo-Electron Microscopy
- X-ray Crystallography
- NMR Spectroscopy
The CCSB, combining these disciplines, has as one of its goals a greater understanding of the workings of cell membrane proteins with eventual translation to clinical application.
