About

The Children’s Creative Learning Center, a four week summer enrichment program, has been in existence for 40+ years. Serving children from all over the Birmingham area, the enrichment program seeks to encourage children to select their daily plan of study, work at their own pace, and enhance their academic development. Whether it is building scientific thinking with ramps & pathways or writing and publishing a newspaper, children discover how exciting learning can be.

History

Dr. Virginia Horns-Marsh was the driving force behind the initiation of the program. After 25 years of work, she asked Dr. Lynn Kirkland to take over the directorship for the next 15 years. One of the faculty members brought to the program because of her knowledge in literacy instruction was Dr. Jennifer Summerlin, who currently serves as director. As an instructor in the Department of Curriculum & Instruction, she continues the rich tradition of the CCLC, rethinking the needs of each site.
