Anderson receives Fulbright Specialists Award

Written by
Peter Anderson, D.V.M., Ph.D., director of Pathology Undergraduate Education at the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Medicine, has been selected for a Fulbright Specialists project. Created in 2000 to complement the Fulbright Scholar Program, the program enables faculty from the United States to support faculty development and institutional planning at academic institutions around the world.

As part of the award, Anderson will lead faculty development programs and hands-on workshops at the Tzu-Chi University College of Medicine in Taiwan for two weeks. His mission will be to help teaching faculty there improve their curriculum and to develop assessment materials for their medical students similar to those used in U.S. medical licensing examinations. Anderson is one of more than 400 U.S. faculty and professionals who will travel abroad this year through the Fulbright Specialists Program, which is sponsored by the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs within the U.S. Department of State.

“I would like to thank the board of the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs for this honor, as well Dr. Hughes Evans, UAB’s senior associate dean for medical education, who wrote a letter in support for my application to the Fulbright Specialists Program,” Anderson said. “I look forward to working with the diverse faculty at Tzu-Chi University College of Medicine.”
