ENRICH Week conference to be hosted Sept. 19-21

Educational Research & Innovations in Clinical & Health Sciences (ENRICH) Week, an annual conference for health educators that promotes teaching skills, fosters curriculum innovation, and showcases scholarship and research findings in health education, will have its 2023 slate of events Sept. 19-21. This year’s theme is “Using Novel Techniques for Health Education and Communication.”

ENRICH Week kicks off on Tuesday, Sept. 19 with a poster session showcasing research and educational innovations from faculty, fellows, residents, and students. The session will be 1-3 p.m. in the West Pavilion Atrium.

We are excited to welcome Jessica Malaty Rivera, M.S., as this year’s ENRICH Week Keynote Speaker, on Wednesday, Sept. 20. Ms. Rivera is a researcher at the Johns Hopkins University Center for Health Security and Senior Science Communication Advisor at the deBeaumont Foundation. Read Ms. Rivera’s full bio here. The Keynote is a part of the Department of Medicine Grand Rounds series. A registration link for the keynote will be made available on the ENRICH Week website, and through the Department of Medicine Grand Rounds.

The Emerging Educators Workshop will be held 8-11:30 a.m., Thursday, Sept. 21 in the Hill Student Center. The workshop is designed for those early in their teaching careers who want to hone their skills in teaching in healthcare education. Featured facilitators include:

  • Rebecca Rampe, PsyD, Assistant Professor, Heersink School of Medicine, Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Neurobiology, presenting “Using Neurodevelopmental Principles as a Foundation for Health Education”
  • Juliana Coleman, M.D. and Stephen Benesh, M.D., Assistant Professors, Heersink School of Medicine, Department of Neurology, presenting “Teaching a Hypothesis Driven Neurologic Exam”
  • Michael Herr, II, Ph.D, Associate Professor, Heersink School of Medicine, Department of Cell, Developmental and Integrative Biology, presenting “Are you still using PowerPoint? Simple ways to make an old dog do new tricks.”
  • Kathryn Corvey, DrPH, MPH, Assistant Professor, School of Public Health, Department of Health Policy and Organization, presenting “Classroom/Community Symbiosis: Blending Service Learning and Research to Foster Mutually Beneficial Relationships”
