Professor Harold Kincaid, Ph.D., is the new chair of the UAB Department of Philosophy.

BIRMINGHAM, AL — Professor Harold Kincaid, Ph.D., is the new chair of the UAB Department of Philosophy.

Kincaid’s appointment became effective August 1. He succeeds George Graham, Ph.D., who has returned to teaching and research.

Kincaid teaches courses on the philosophy of science. He also directs the UAB Center for Ethics and Values in the Sciences. The center, established in 1998, is designed for the study of value questions in the sciences and bioethics.

Kincaid is the author of Philosophical Foundations of the Social Sciences, (Cambridge University Press, 1996) and Individualism and the Unity of Science, (Rowman and Littlefield, 1997). He is the 1998 recipient of the Carolyn P. and Charles W. Ireland Prize for Scholarly Distinction.

Kincaid earned both his undergraduate and graduate degrees at Indiana University. He has been a member of the UAB faculty since 1983.
