University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) Professor Bobby Wilson, Ph.D., will receive the Distinguished Scholar Award from the Southeastern Division of the Association of American Geographers, (AAG).

BIRMINGHAM, AL — University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) Professor Bobby Wilson, Ph.D., will receive the Distinguished Scholar Award from the Southeastern Division of the Association of American Geographers, (AAG). He will be the first recipient of that award from the Division.

The AAG is a scientific and educational society founded in 1904 where members share interests in the theory, methods and practice of geography. The AAG has 6,500 members nationwide.

The AAG’s Southeastern Division’s Distinguished Scholar Award recognizes significant scholarly contributions. It also establishes a President’s Plenary Session at the 2001 annual Division meeting. The plenary session will focus on Wilson’s long-term research and scholarly accomplishments. Wilson will make a presentation during the plenary session.

Wilson is a professor of urban geography in the UAB Department of Government and Public Service. He has been employed at UAB since 1974.
