The discovery and development of new drugs is a costly and lengthy process, which requires expertise in a large number of disciplines. In addition to basic, preclinical and clinical scientific know-how, issues such as intellectual property and regulatory requirements play a prominent role. Fortunately, together, UAB and SRI employees have the various skill sets needed to make the drug discovery process a success, with the ADDA facilitating the integration and communication between the experts involved in each project. Of note, the ADDA will fund pilot projects at any stage of drug discovery and development.
