The Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Commemoration at UAB is hosted this year on Thursday, Jan. 18, from 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. at Margaret Cameron Spain Auditorium, and the event will offer lunch to the first 100 guests.

Leslie Rhodes, M.D., associate professor in the Division of Pediatric Cardiology, has been named the next president of UAB's chapter of the American Medical Women's Association (AMWA), facilitated by the Heersink School of Medicine Office for Diversity and Inclusion. 
The UAB Heersink School of Medicine recently ushered in the joyous festival of Chanukah (or Hanukkah) with a vibrant Public Menorah Lighting event held on Thursday, Dec. 7. Hosted by the Office for Diversity and Inclusion Student Affairs, the Chabad of Alabama, and the Jewish Medical Student Association, this festive event brought together UAB leadership, students, and community members. The gathering was filled with meaningful speeches, networking opportunities, music, and traditional Chanukah treats.

Native American Heritage Month is observed every November and serves as a reminder of the contributions and deep-rooted traditions of indigenous people, American Indians, and Alaska Natives.

The second event in the series is presented by Kellie Carter, Ph.D., senior leadership development specialist.

Mona Fouad, M.D., MPH, senior associate dean for Diversity and Inclusion in the Heersink School of Medicine and director of the Minority Health and Health Equity Research Center, has been elected to the National Institutes of Health’s Advisory Committee to the Director (ACD) Working Group on Diversity.
