Grabowski named chair of southern group on medical student affairs

christina grabowski web sizedChristina Grabowski, Ph.D., associate dean for Admissions and Enrollment Management in the UAB School of Medicine, recently assumed the role of chair of the Association of American Medical Colleges Southern Group on Student Affairs (SGSA).

Grabowski served as vice chair and then chair elect for the past two years and was installed as chair during the AAMC Group on Student Affairs/Organization of Student Representatives Spring Meeting. The SGSA mission is to advance medical education with particular emphasis on the critical review of issues and interests of medical schools and medical students, in the area of admissions, financial aid, diversity affairs, student affairs and student records in the Southern Region.

Grabowski, an expert on holistic review practices in medical school admissions, has also served other national positions, including as a member of the AAMC Committee on Admissions, the Enrollment Management Working Group of the Advancing Holistic Review Initiative, the AAMC Student Surveys Advisory Committee and the AAMC Situational Judgment Test Pilot Study.

Before joining the School of Medicine in 2017, Grabowski served as a founding admissions dean at Oakland University William Beaumont School of Medicine from 2009 to 2017. Before her role at the medical school, she held progressive admissions leadership roles at Oakland University since 1993.
