Current MERIT Scholars are required to complete research and teaching skills development plans and research ethics training and attend monthly Scholar meetings as a well as the annual MERIT Retreat and IRACDA Conference. Further, each MERIT Scholar is provided with opportunities to develop professional skills through formal coursework in teaching pedagogy, grant writing, and laboratory management offered by The Office of Professional Skills and Experiential Learning, which is embedded within the UAB Graduate School / Office of Postdoctoral Education.
Following successful transition into an academic faculty position, MERIT Alumni have continued support from the Program to ensure their long-term progress and advancement. This support includes, but is not limited to, mentoring from Program leadership; peer mentoring and networking opportunities with other MERIT Alumni via a dedicated LinkedIn group; and access to UAB professional development resources.
