BIRMINGHAM, AL — The works of UAB associate professor of art Gary Chapman are currently on show at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock in the main gallery, through March 13. The show, “Gary Chapman: Paintings and Drawings,” features 23 works of art. Chapman will attend a closing reception at the gallery March 13 and also will present a visiting artist lecture and a gallery talk.

Chapman’s work also has been selected for the Biennale Internazionale Dell’Arte Contemporanea in Florence, Italy, commonly referred to as the Florence Biennale. The show is planned for December. Artists from more than 63 countries will participate. Each participating artist had to be nominated by the committee from his or her country, and then go through a selection process by the international committee. Chapman has been nominated and selected by the international committee.

Chapman is an associate professor of art in the UAB Department of Art and Art History, specializing in large scale, conceptually driven, figurative oil painting and drawing. This will be Chapman’s second international exhibition. He previously exhibited four paintings at the Ormeau Baths Gallery of Art of Belfast, Northern Ireland’s premiere contemporary art center. His works have been exhibited in Alabama and across the country, in galleries and museums. His work has been purchased for the permanent collections of eight southeastern museums and numerous corporate and private collections.
