Dr. Marjorie Jeffcoat, a periodontist at School of Dentistry at UAB and the James Rosen Professor of Dental Research, recently assumed the presidency of the International Association for Dental Research at its annual meeting in Washington, D.C.

BIRMINGHAM, AL — Dr. Marjorie Jeffcoat, a periodontist at School of Dentistry at UAB and the James Rosen Professor of Dental Research, recently assumed the presidency of the International Association for Dental Research at its annual meeting in Washington, D.C.

The IADR, made up of more than 10,000 members from across the world, is the principal international organization of scientists in dental and craniofacial research.

Jeffcoat is past president of the American division of the IADR and serves on the DHHS National Advisory Council for Dental and Craniofacial Research. Her scientific work in clinical research has led to a number of new diagnostic techniques and tools.

She is currently involved in studies of possible relationships between periodontal disease and other health concerns, such as osteoporosis, heart disease and premature birth.
