BIRMINGHAM, AL — The University of Alabama at Birmingham Police Department has received re-accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA).

A CALEA assessment team gave the UAB Police Department high marks for, among other things, its community policing efforts, criminal investigations, communications center and training.

In recognition of the accomplishment, the department will host a re-accreditation awards ceremony and open house, 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, August 9, at the UAB Police Headquarters, 1117 14th Street South.

CALEA is an international law enforcement accreditation program that sets the standards for police stations across the United States and Canada. Nearly 440 law enforcement agencies are fully accredited by CALEA. The UAB Police Department has been accredited by the CALEA since 1995.
