BIRMINGHAM, AL — University of Alabama at Birmingham junior Alan Skees of Homewood has been awarded the winter/spring 2000-2001 Frohock Scholarship in the UAB Department of Art and Art History. He is the son of Carl and Carol Skees of Homewood. Skees is a 1997 graduate of Homewood High School.

Skees, an art studio major, was presented with the $900 award, which will be used for tuition. The Frohock Scholarship is named for the late Edith Frohock, a former art professor in the department and a Birmingham artist. The scholarship is awarded to a bachelor of art or fine art student in junior standing with a 3.0 grade point average or higher.

Skees was chosen from five candidates, whose portfolios were judged by faculty members in the art department. His work, primarily digital and computer-based, includes medical illustrations and x-rays which have been manipulated to create secondary images.
