Students from the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) will participate in the 2009 College Colors Day in Alabama celebration Friday, Aug. 28, in Montgomery.

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Students from the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) will participate in the 2009 College Colors Day in Alabama celebration Friday, Aug. 28, in Montgomery.

College Colors Day is an annual, national celebration dedicated to promoting the traditions and school spirit that make the college experience great by encouraging people across the United States to wear apparel of their favorite college or university.

Additionally, College Colors Day, which coincides with the new school year and the kickoff of college athletics, strives to advocate higher education through increased public awareness and celebrates the achievement of colleges and universities, acknowledging their fundamental importance. National College Colors Day is Sept. 4.

Student representatives from UAB will attend a special ceremony at 8:30 a.m. Friday, Aug. 28, outside the Alabama Capitol in Montgomery where Gov. Bob Riley will sign a proclamation declaring it College Colors Day in Alabama. Alabamians are encouraged to wear their school colors that day.
