Arts events and happenings at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) are featured every other month on “Art Matters,” a half-hour public access program on Bright House Networks.

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Arts events and happenings at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) are featured every other month on "Art Matters," a half-hour public access program on Bright House Networks.

The show is scheduled to air several times each week on Bright House Channel 4, including at 9 p.m. Monday, 6 p.m. Tuesday, 10 p.m. Wednesday and 5 p.m. Thursday. It can be viewed by more than 56,000 customers throughout Jefferson County. The program also is available on Bright House's Birmingham On Demand, which can be viewed by more than 36,000 people.

The September episode of "Art Matters at UAB" features a segment on the Alys Stephens Center that highlights its new season, the ASC Junior Patrons "Get smARt, Support the Arts" fundraising campaign that will give away a new 2009 smart® fortwo pure coupe worth nearly $14,000, and two new shows, the Jim Lauderdale Bluegrass Trio on Oct. 17 and Jewel, solo acoustic, on Oct. 30.

Another segment features the traveling exhibition," Sacred Steps on the Camino" at the UAB Visual Arts Gallery. John Moore, Ph.D., associate professor and interim chair of the UAB Department of Foreign Languages, discusses the exhibition and its focus, the pilgrimage to Santiago in Spain. Moore also details the Sept. 24 lecture by UAB Visiting Jemison Lecturer and exhibit curator George D. Greenia, Ph.D., professor of modern languages at the College of William and Mary and the Hispanic Family Day event at UAB, which will close the exhibition Sept. 26.

UAB shares the program with the Birmingham Museum of Art. New episodes featuring the arts at UAB will air in November and in January 2010.
