The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) has established the Griffith R. Harsh III, M.D., Endowed Chair in Neurosurgery to honor Harsh’s distinguished career and significant contributions to the medical profession.

 

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) has established the Griffith R. Harsh III, M.D., Endowed Chair in Neurosurgery to honor Harsh's distinguished career and significant contributions to the medical profession. The chair will stand as a perpetual tribute to his pioneering work as a surgeon, educator and researcher. The action was approved by the University of Alabama System Board of Trustees at its Sept. 18 meeting.

After earning his medical degree from Vanderbilt University School of Medicine and completing his service in the United States Army Medical Corps, Harsh joined the UAB faculty in 1955. He was named the director of the Division of Neurosurgery in 1978.

Harsh will be known forever as a pioneer in the field of neurosurgery, and his contributions to his profession and to the advancement and education of physicians is a legacy to the science of neurosurgery.
