BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) School of Business students enrolled in the Medical Equipment and Supplies Industrial Distribution program, also known as MED ID, will present industry product analysis reports to executives from the corporations that manufacture and sell the products as part of MED ID Day.

This year's version of the annual event will take place Thursday, Nov. 19, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Barber Motor Sports Park, 6040 Barber Motorsports Pkwy.

"It is one thing for students to have their industry product analysis projects reviewed and graded by a professor, but it is unique and exciting for them to have their work considered by the executives from the companies that develop and market those products," said Tom DeCarlo, Ph.D., professor and Ben S. Weil Chair of Industrial Distribution.

"To be successful professionals in medical equipment and supplies distribution, our students must research and build a strong knowledge of industry products and services," DeCarlo said. "And how better to develop that knowledge than through an enhanced learning opportunity using direct interaction with industry leaders?"

MED ID Day also includes a luncheon and networking opportunities. Health care companies from Birmingham and at least three other states in the Southeast are scheduled to attend.

Medical equipment and supplies distribution is considered a super-growth industry by the Health Industry Distributors Association (HIDA). The HIDA estimates 67 percent growth in the health care industry over the next decade as the country's Baby Boomers age, leading to a total of more than 70 million Americans aged 65 or older by 2030.

"Our MED ID students have great professional opportunities ahead of them and are very highly recruited as indicated by the strong industry interest in our program," DeCarlo said.
