UAB Critical Care Transport flew 11 newborns from Tulane University Medical Center to Birmingham ahead of the arrival of Hurricane Gustav. The 11 babies, from Tulane's newborn intensive-care unit, are being cared for in several hospitals in the Birmingham area. The airlift was reminiscent of CCT's trips to New Orleans and the Gulf Coast after the destruction of Hurricane Katrina in 2005, when CCT airlifted 22 patients, mostly infants, from hospitals affected by the storm.
