What is UAB Solution StudiosTM?
UAB Solution Studios™ aims to accelerate the translation of clinical innovation to the benefit of multiple patient populations. This goal is accomplished by bringing clinicians and STEM students into UAB Solution Studios™, a digital workspace where teams are formed to collaborate and develop solutions to unsolved clinical problems.
UAB Solution Studios™ is a partnership among the Honors College, School of Nursing, School of Engineering, UAB Hospital, Center for Interprofessional Education & Simulation, Children’s Hospital, and with support from the Office of the President and the Bill L. Harbert Institute for Innovation and Entrepreneurship.
How it Works
A UAB clinician identifies a patient-centered problem and posts it to the UAB Solution Studios™ website. Students and clinicians meet in the digital space, form teams around clinical problems, and work toward solutions through the design thinking process. The output from this process includes product ideas, assessment of feasibility of ideas, prototyping, testing and application for funding for further development and ultimately commercialization.
