Purpose:

The Sparkman Center for Global Health (Sparkman Center) announces international global health-related internships and practicum opportunities for eligible UAB students for Summer 2020 (June-July). These travel awards provide elite educational experiences that enrich UAB students. Internships come with a $3,000 stipend to cover airfare and some living expenses.

 

Eligibility Criteria:

UAB junior or senior undergraduate students (3.25 GPA minimum), graduate, and doctoral students in good academic standing who will be enrolled at the time of travel are eligible for placement. (Domestic and International students are able to apply.)

Internship with the Research Care & Training Program, Kenya Medical Research Institute The principal goal for this Internship/Practicum is to expose interns to the realities of conducting public health practice and studies in resource-constrained settings. Intern will support care delivery and research related to antenatal care, family health, and prevention of mother-to-child transmission (PMTCT) services at public health clinics in Kisumu and Migori Counties. Internship with the Caribbean Vulnerable Communities Coalition (CVC) The principal goal for this internship is to expose interns to the realities of conducting public health practice and studies in resource-constrained settings with highly-stigmatized populations who are especially vulnerable to HIV. These groups include men who have sex with men, persons of trans experience, sex workers, people who use drugs, migrant populations, and others. Click read more for full details.

Internship with the Sunrise Centre The principal goal for this Internship/Practicum is to provide clinical care alongside the Sunrise Centre's qualified team, as well as learn from and support the work of their existing staff. Deadlines:

Deadline to apply is February 12th, 2020. No late applications be considered for funding.

 

Application Process:

Complete and submit the online application (see below). Only electronic applications will be considered. For an application to be considered for selection, all fields need to be completed.

All necessary approvals for the training and potential foreign travel related to this award, including approvals from the UAB Office of Education Abroad and UAB Institutional Review Board if applicable must be obtained prior to the travel start date, but are not required to submit an application. Internship recipients must be current UAB students for the summer 2020 semester. You do not have to be registered in classes for the summer; however, you cannot have graduated prior to the start of summer semester.
