The UAB student chapter of the American Society of Civil Engineers hosts the inaugural ASCE Disc Golf Tournament Saturday, Oct. 20, 2012, at George Ward Park, 1871 Green Springs Highway. The tournament, approved by the Professional Disc Golf Association, is a charity sanctioned event so all proceeds go back to the ASCE for community projects — such as building a rain cistern to irrigate the garden at Trace Crossing Elementary School — and to help with the group’s annual concrete canoe competition.
The event consists of two 18-hole rounds of disc golf, one in the morning and one in the afternoon, and costs $20 per player. Players who pre-register at PDGAsignup.com will receive a free event disc. Onsite registration will be available the day of the tournament at 7 a.m. if spaces are available. The tournament begins at 8 a.m. Prizes will be awarded to the top players in each division. Contact Paisley at 256-652-7638 for more information.
