Symposium to discuss issues surrounding disability benefits for veterans

UAB hosts a symposium on understanding and improving disability benefits for veterans at Lakeshore Foundation on Nov. 6.

veteran with disabilityThe Deep South Center for Occupational Health and Safety, part of the UAB School of Public Health, will host Disability Benefits for Veterans: An Interdisciplinary Symposium on Friday, Nov. 6, at Lakeshore Foundation. The symposium will examine the expectations of veterans who are disabled, appropriate responses to those expectations and strategies for treatment.

Representatives from private and nongovernmental sectors will discuss approaches to meeting veterans’ needs and share lessons learned with attendees. Panel discussions will be led by representatives from the Department of Veterans Affairs, as well as from the medical, nonprofit and legal communities. 

It will include a review and update on the government benefits available to veterans, information on Agent Orange and heart disease, and discussion of homelessness issues and female veterans’ issues.

The symposium will be held from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday, Nov. 6, at Lakeshore Foundation, Sington Room, 4000 Ridgeway Drive, Birmingham. Fees are $55, and registration is required. Continuing Education Units are available.
