education buildingThe Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation has reaccredited the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Education.

CAEP is the premier accrediting agency for education professionals in the United States. Its evidence-based accreditation system is based on annual progress reports, comprehensive institutional reports and on-site visits. The CAEP team completed its on-site visit to the School of Education in December 2013 and notified the school of reaccreditation in May 2014.

“We are proud of our association with CAEP and the fact that our School of Education has been continuously accredited for the past four decades,” said Dean Deborah Voltz, Ed.D. “We have maintained high-quality programs for preparing teachers, administrators and school personnel as the educational standards have evolved over the years. Responding to the CAEP guidelines and its national standards has helped us maintain that commitment to excellence.”

CAEP consolidated two accrediting bodies, the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education and the Teacher Education Accreditation Council, in 2013. UAB was part of NCATE’s inaugural accreditation list in 1973.

The School of Education’s CAEP-accredited programs include undergraduate and graduate tracks in educator preparation, counselor education, teacher leadership and educational leadership.

“I want to thank all our faculty, staff, students and school partners who have worked so hard to make this prestigious national accreditation possible,” Voltz said. “CAEP accreditation is a hallmark of academic excellence, and we are grateful to everyone who participated in this process. We look forward to continuing to improve our educator preparation programs to produce the highest-quality teachers, administrators and school support personnel.”

The school’s next CAEP accreditation review is scheduled for 2020.
